We took a trip up north to Denmark for the weekend, and I was most impressed by our stop Sunday morning at Scandinavian Park in Flensburg, a shopping center for Danes just inside Germany with a business plan based entirely on selling Danish beer at German prices. Prices are prominently displayed in Danish Kroner, and it's open late evenings and Sundays. Among other shops there's a cheap Etap hotel, a motorcycle supply shop, a slot-machine arcade, and a Beate Uhse sex shop. One stop shopping at its finest.
Of course if the EU ever equalized alcohol taxes the whole concept would be bankrupt in an instant.
